In 1963 when Color fest begin, It started as a nature walk but quickly evolved into a juried Arts & Crafts Show featuring 300 well known and respected artists from the across the United States. Catoctin Color fest has been recognized in Sunshine Artists Magazine and ranked in the top 35 shows in the United States and one of the largest on the East Coast. Also a wide selection of delicious food is available to satisfy everyone's appetite.
Catoctin Color fest's commitment to the community is strongly evident through its Scholarship Program, donations to the Food Bank, the Guardian Hose Co., Thurmont Community Ambulance, Family Movie Nights, Christmas Decorations & summer garden in Mechanics town Park, participation and donations to the annual children's Halloween Party, a Memorial Garden in the Community Park and participation in the Memorial Day Program to name a few of the projects which Color fest has supported.
The Town of Thurmont is located at the base of the beautiful Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County, Maryland. It is easily accessible via route U.S. 15 and is a pleasant scenic drive from points north and south. Thurmont is approximately 50 miles from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Catoctin Color fest is an annual arts and crafts festival in Thurmont, MD. Every year about 125,000 people attend, making it one of the largest festivals of its kind on the east coast of the United States. In 2005 Color fest was recognized as one of the top 35 arts and craft shows in the United States by Sunshine Artists Magazine. In 2013 about 250 vendors participated in Color fest. The event is free to attend, but you have to pay parking charge. The festival takes place in the second weekend of October every year. During Color fest a free shuttlebus service is provided to get to and from the parking areas. The event takes the entire year to plan.
